Connect to the Internet securely
TCP/IP, the acronym for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, is a software protocol for communication between computers on a network. It is widely used on the Internet and in private networks. Windows Me features a greatly improved version of TCP/IP, one based on the version found in the Windows 2000 operating system family.
The TCP/IP improvements in Windows Me provide:
- Enhanced security and reliability when you are connected to the Internet.
- Improved performance, including faster data transfer rates while using the Internet.
- Reduced computer start-up time.
- Support for the latest networking technologies, including TCP/IP over IEEE 1394, a high-speed data transfer standard for devices such as printers and scanners, and HomePNA, a technology that provides networking capabilities using the existing telephone lines in your home.
